In May, Western's provost and vice-president (academic), Janice Deakin, announced she would leave her role at the university two years early. While her term was originally to go until July 2020, she'll now leave in July 2018. The Gazette's editor-in-chief, Amy O'Kruk, spoke with Deakin to discuss her reasons for leaving, her time at Western and what she plans to focus on in her last year.
