Gamal Assaad swimming

Gamal Assaad competes in a swim meet in the 2013-14 season, his first year at Western. This year he has his eyes set on more than just defending his OUA gold medal in the 100-m butterfly.

Every week the Purple Pipe Podcast dedicates time to Mustang athletics. We talk to the athletes and coaches who matter most.

Episode 21 features Gamal Assaad and Lexi Meklensek from the swimming team, who are hosting the Ontario University Athletics championship this weekend at the Western Rec Center from Thursday to Saturday.

Host Shane Roberts talks with the guests about how their swimming careers began, why they choose Western, how it's an advantage to be the host for OUAs, what their goals are for the OUA and CIS championships, what practices are like and much more.

Some other highlights include Gamal having a little trouble with Rapid Fire and Lexi struggling to remember other Mustang varsity teams in Mustangs Trivia.

Shane is a fourth year History student at Western. It is his first year as a sports editor for the Gazette. He is also a member of the cross country and track and field teams at Western.
