Incoming SPO Mac McIntosh speaks during the election at the second part of the USC's annual general meeting.

Mac McIntosh has been elected by USC council as the next student programs officer (SPO).

"It was a tight race and it was really hard to come here today confident because of how strong everybody was," said McIntosh. "I'm really excited to get it going and to make it happen and hopefully utilize this platform — I'm just excited to start."

McIntosh said that in his new position he will focus his energies towards communications and he will begin to plan for summer in the coming days.

McIntosh served as associate programming this year, previously working as the Early Outreach Co-ordinator.

The SPO is elected by incoming and outgoing USC council at the second part of their annual general meeting. The SPO has one of the largest portfolios of the executive, charged with overseeing student programming, Orientation Week and the Peer Support Centre.

More to come.
